My path to UX design:  My search to find a way to scale health coaching for greater impact led me to a health tech startup, where I interfaced with hundreds of users daily.

To the users, I was the face of the product, and they gave me lots of unsolicited feedback on their user experience.  This led me to be curious about product development at the organization.

Seeing my growing interest, my manager invited me to be a part of a task force of coaches working directly with product.  I joined a pod of engineers, design, and PM- a crash course in Agile UX.

I was thrilled with my new role and dove right in, learning hungrily.  Transforming insights into rapid product improvements fulfilled my desire to meet user needs.

Then, the pandemic hit.  Just as I, and everyone else in the world, was figuring out how to adjust, I received a serious medical diagnosis that forced me to go on disability leave.

During my treatments I spent a lot of time thinking about where I had been and where I was going.  I wasn't eager to return to health coaching and wished that I could go back into product, but didn't yet feel qualified.

So, I decided to make the best of my leave and began learning and practicing UX design.  During the process, I came to realize that I already had experience and expertise in many areas of research.

After finishing my UX certificate, I began volunteering to help non-profits and organizations promoting social good through Catchafire and Tech Fleet, to gain real-world experience.

Today, I am thrilled to be leading the UX research team for a new searchable database of health resources for disabled folks.
